For now, Crooked Creek and Napaimute are spared any flooding concerns.

…FLOOD WARNING IS CANCELLED FOR THE KUSKOKWIM RIVER NEAR CROOKED

CREEK…

THE ICE JAM WHICH HAD FORMED DOWNSTREAM OF CROOKED CREEK AT RABBIT

ISLAND HAS SHIFTED TO ALLOW WATER TO FLOW AROUND THE RIGHT SIDE OF

THE ISLAND. WATER LEVELS AT CROOKED CREEK HAVE BEEN DROPPING.

EXPECTED IMPACTS:

WATER LEVELS SHOULD BE HOLDING STEADY OR DROPPING OVER THE NEXT FEW

DAYS.

…THE FLOOD WARNING HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR THE KUSKOKWIM RIVER AT

NAPAIMUTE…

KUSKOKWIM RIVER LEVELS REMAINED BELOW FLOOD STAGE WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT

NAPAIMUTE. THE ICE JAM DAM DOWN RIVER WAS STILL IN PLACE THURSDAY

MORNING…HOWEVER RIVER LEVELS WERE NO LONGER RISING. THIS SUGGESTS

A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WATER HAS BEEN ABLE TO GET AROUND OR THROUGH

THE ICE JAM.

Here is last evening’s River Watch report:

evening flight to Georgetown and back to Aniak.

A 5 mile ice run was just passing Crooked Creek, it should pass without
problems. There is a Ice Jam about 5 miles below the Oskawalik river mouth
with a large amount of pan and chunk ice backed up at it. That jam is about 14
miles above Napaimute. The ice between the jam and Napaimute looks fairly
solid and should hold for a while. Mark Leary at Napaimute has bee informed
and will continue to watch for movement. Mark said he was tired of looking at
the same ice for so long - I'm afraid it will be just a bit longer.

Riverwatch will be flying again Thursday at 1600 up to Crooked Creek and down
to Tuluksak area.

As of yesterday people in Old Town were going back and forth to Aniak stocking up on groceries.
Sometimes you just have to dodge the ice slabs.
