Napaimute’s Very Own Megan Leary Crowned Miss WEIO – Who Can Cast A Fishing Rod As Well As Anyone

Megan Leary, the daughter of Shelly and Mark, was crowned Miss WEIO (World Eskimo Indian Olympics) in Fairbanks this past July.  Both communities of Napaimute and Bethel are especially proud of Megan who during the competition stressed to her peers and those younger to stay in school and earn their diplomas.  She encouraged those younger to go beyond high school and soak in what college life has to offer.

Megan also stressed the importance of traditional learning which she said is just as important as formal education.

But Megan did not only wow the crowds in Fairbanks at the Miss WEIO completion, she didn’t disappoint the crowds in Aniak at this year’s Interior Rivers Fair.  Here she took second place in the adult casting contest, beating out many of the local fishermen.
