Fisheries Biologist for the Lower Yukon Subsistence Sampling Project

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, assist with a Lower Yukon Subsistence Chinook Age, Sex, Length and Genetic Sampling Project in Alakanuk, Emmonak/Kotlik, Mountain Village, St. Mary’s, and Marshall. Assist Project Manager with initial trainings with subsistence fisherman in each community and train additional samplers as needed. Assist with activities such as recruitment, training, quality control, and data collection. Coordinate through local Community Coordinators to obtain samples, ensure quality, and follow up with fisherman for refresher trainings if necessary. This position will be based in Emmonak, AK but additional trips to District 1 and District 2 communities may be necessary to follow up with fisherman. Responsible for data entry in season and post season as well as post-season summaries.
Education and/or experience: B.S. or advanced degrees in Fisheries, Biology or related field. Candidates with related field experience may also qualify.
Other Skills and Abilities: 1.)Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment; knowledge of, and work experience in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta; 2.) ability to work with general public and administrative agencies 3). Data entry experience 4). Microsoft Excel experience.
Physical Demands: Need to be fully mobile to accommodate all types of field work. Need to be able to stand, walk, use of all extremities to include sense of touch, good hearing and eyesight.
Preferred Start Date: May 20, 2013
Schedule: approximately May 20 – August 1, 2013; 7.5 hours/day
